Well ,the Show was really nice and very well attended and the art work was excellent. I enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. We stayed the weekend with my sister and her husband and had a great visit with them. I had been extremely ill with my allergies for the better part of the week and really had to force myself to go to this show, but I hated to miss it.
Besides being sick, the weekend was really nice, except for one rather annoying problem. I must say I was rather appalled by the attitude of some of the artists. I heard so much complaining, it ranged from complaining about the venue, to length of exhibit, to choice of judges, to what mediums were allowed to enter the show. I have been privileged to be juried into many shows over the past few years and I have never heard so much complaining as I did at this one. Sour grapes don't belong at an art show. Each show and each judge is different. Its a subjective thing, it all depends on what a judge likes or dislikes. Realize you can't win all the time, but you are getting your work out in front of buyers, Be grateful!
Most artists are kind, generous, encouraging people, especially to other artists! I would encourage all artists to just relax and enjoy the show. Be kind to other artists and especially to those who have worked so hard to put the show on. The staff, of which many are volunteers, work long and hard to put on a art show. It takes many hours of work and dedication. Make sure you thank them for all their hard work.
Alright, I'm over my rant, I just had to get that off my chest. Happy painting!
